TOGG CEO Gürcan Karakaş: TOGG Is Not Affected by the Chip and Battery Crisis

Turkey's Automobile Enterprise Group (TOGG) continues to arouse curiosity both in the global automotive industry and in the domestic press.

Turkey’s Automobile Enterprise Group (TOGG) continues to arouse curiosity both in the global automotive industry and in the domestic press. Making important statements about where the electric vehicle industry in the world is heading, TOGG CEO Gürcan Karakaş said: “It is stated that the number of electric cars on a global scale will increase from 11 million currently to 145 million in 2030. Thus, the market share will be 7 percent.”

“It Is Not Hard To Convert To Fuel Cell Technology”

As it is known, brands such as Toyota in the automotive industry advocate hybrid motor vehicles instead of electric vehicles. He argues that hydrogen technology will be more common in practice than the use of electric vehicles. Making statements on this subject, TOGG CEO Gürcan Karakaş pointed out that a car with fuel cell technology is basically an electric car: “If we have a good electric car, it is very difficult to convert it to a fuel cell when its technology and infrastructure become efficient and affordable. It’s not a difficult job. But our focus is on electric cars with innate electric batteries.”

“A Crisis Will Come More Important Than The Chip Crisis: The Battery Crisis”

Reminding that there has been a chip crisis in the automotive industry for a while, Karakaş said that there are predictions that this crisis will continue for another year. “We think we won’t be caught in the chip crisis with the reservations we’ve made. There will be a more important crisis than the chip crisis; battery crisis. No cells. While everyone around the world is rushing to produce more electric vehicles, the capacities of cell manufacturers around the world are reserved until 2030 and beyond. Therefore, our company SiRo, which we established with our partner Farasis and will manufacture in Gemlik, is of strategic importance.”

Stating that they have been carrying out this business in a planned and programmed way from the very beginning in TOGG production, CEO Gürcan Karakaş stated that they will not be stuck with the cell and battery crisis in the future. “As TOGG, we will produce electric vehicles from birth. We will not use internal combustion engines. So we won’t have a hybrid option.” He said that they are completely suitable for electric vehicle technology.
