Is TOGG sold in Germany? First route in TOGG Germany! TOGG CEO M. Gürcan Karakaş emphasized that Europe is their primary export target market for domestic cars that will be off the band in 2022, and announced that they plan to sell to Germany first. TOGG will also export the domestic battery it will develop.

Is TOGG sold in Germany?

Turkey’s Automobile Enterprise Group (TOGG) CEO Gürcan Karakaş, conveying the latest developments in the project with an online press conference, announced new targets for the coming periods. TOGG CEO Gürcan Karakaş said that their first target market in exports is Germany and that they are planning to sell to France and Italy afterwards.

The construction start ceremony of the facility located in Gemlik, Bursa was held with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the past weeks. Gürcan Karakaş emphasized that while many projects were canceled worldwide due to the epidemic, there was no change in TOGG’s plans and said, “We have a team ready for global competition. There is a construction period of 18 months. In 2022, we will unload the first vehicles from the tape. There is no disruption in our plans and investment decisions,” he said. Karakaş emphasized that despite the exchange rate increase, they have no concerns about financing the 22 billion-dollar project because their partners are very strong.

Domestic battery will also be exported

Providing information about the battery process, Karakaş said, “Both negotiations and technical details on the battery continue. Our aim there is to define this company together with a company in Turkey, because there is a process going on, and we want to bring this technology to Turkey with this company. There is an issue that we care about while doing this. The first is the latest technology, and the second is to have a market share in the surrounding countries and abroad when this investment is made from Turkey, together with the technology used in our TOGG vehicles. That’s why we care about technology being new. Production can be made not only for us, but also for others. We also aim to export this battery to different countries,” he said.

We convinced a global giant in battery”

Karakaş stated that there were discussions with local companies about the battery, but it was agreed that the needed battery could not be developed in Turkey, adding, “The technology we need, the technology that electric vehicles need is not yet produced in Turkey. And we also talked to many large and small companies in Turkey. And the point we have reached is that it is not possible for us to develop this until the start of production in Turkey, or even until the production of the first 2 vehicles. Therefore, we continue this project with one of the world’s leading players. We also convinced one of the world’s leading players to bring it to our country.”

Stating that two patents of TOGG have been registered so far, Karakaş said that one of them is for driving tests and the other is about the battery.

TOGG brand will be permanent

Expressing that 93 percent of the supplier selection has been completed, Karakaş said, “78 percent of our suppliers are from Turkey, and 22 percent are from Europe and Asia.” We thought of many different name alternatives, but in the end, we decided to continue with the TOGG brand.” Karakaş said that the TOGG brand has been registered in the European Union, USA, China, Russia, Canada, South Korea, Japan and Azerbaijan, and that work in this direction continues for other countries.

Confidentiality agreements with 10 global companies

Gürcan Karakaş announced that they have signed a confidentiality agreement with 10 large global companies from various countries of the world. Karakaş, who did not provide details due to confidentiality agreements, said, “There is great interest in our technology from abroad.”

An example of iPhone to the domesticity debate…

Gürcan Karakaş also clarified the discussions on TOGG’s locality and said, “We define ourselves as Turkey’s automobile. Here, there is a confusion of concepts about ‘domestic’ and ‘nationality’. The important thing here is to create a global brand. When mentioning the iPhone, only one country is mentioned. However, the native rate of iPhone is zero. TOGG, on the other hand, will start with 51 percent locality and this rate will increase to 68 percent after starting production. We are talking about a brand whose intellectual and industrial property rights will be fully owned by Turkey and whose decisions will be made by us. That’s what matters,” he said.

It will create 95 new jobs this year

Karakaş stated that they currently employ 180 people in the TOGG team, most of whom are engineers and hold important positions in global companies, and said that this number will reach 275 people by the end of the year. Karakaş said that after the factory opens, employment will gradually increase to 4,300 people and the rate of female employees will be over 30 percent. Karakaş pointed out that employment will be provided from Bursa and Gemlik regions.

A competitive price will be offered

Refraining from making a clear statement on the price, Karakaş said, “Reminding that the first vehicle to be off the band will be a 100 percent electric SUV, we will certainly offer a competitive price.” Until 2030, a total of 1 million units of 5 different models, all of which are born electric, will be produced at the facility. More than 700 million TL of R&D investment has been made for TOGG so far.
